Question by Blair: What is the difference between a sober living facility and an extended rehab facility?
When a person leaves a 30 day alcohol rehab facility and is faced with many options, what do they do? Obviously 30 days is not enough for a very successful recovery so extended treatment is often neccessary. There is sober living houses and there are 90 day treatment programs that follw the initial 30 day treatment. What is the main difference between the two?

Best answer:

Answer by Taf
Hi – at some point your friend will have to stand on their feet. It makes no difference if it is after one day or one year. Treatment is a very misleading definiton – I personally am not a fan of rehabs and find them misleading. At most, this type of help can only support the persons desire to abstain – it rarely gives them that desire.

For an ongoing support I would recommend the principles of smartrecovery.org, which is based on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy.

As a friend to them it is best not to get in the way, neither to be sympathetic and to move on without guilt or judgement if they are not ready to give up (unless you want such a situation).

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by jamc2009: Meth rehab, what is a good rehab facility that does not cost too much?
My son has a meth addition, has had it for 7 years. I want to put him in a treatment center but I don’t know which one. I looked at Narconon but I am afraid of it. It sounds too harsh on an already abused body. Does anyone know it it works or can suggest another one.

Best answer:

Answer by anne
I would talk to a counselor in your area. Is there a hospital in your area with a psych floor? If so you should definitely get in touch with the doctor in that department and find out his opinion, or even speak to one of the nurses on the floor about the issue. You could even call your local hospital and ask to be transfered to someone who might be able to help you with the matter. This is a very serious matter and as a nurse I just don’t think you should rely on an answer that someone gives you on yahoo, but to speak with a healthcare professional. If you would like for me to give you the number to a healthcare facility in my area that may be able to answer your questions, I can.
