Question by Red Ant: We are going to confront (kindly) our drug-addicted sister tonight. Do you know any right words?
The 51 year old “little” sister has been a drug addict since high school. Her husband of 27 years gave up and they are getting divorced (not that he was any angel). The little sister recently had back surgery (doc did a great job), and she is not doing exercises or anything to help herself. She has used the situation (although extreme) to get drugs first, attention second, and was hoping someone would take care of her afterward for the rest of her life. That is not happening.
She has sent us to the pharmacy to refill muscle relaxers, Hydrocodone, and God knows what else — only to be told it’s too soon for a refill. In other words, she’s as much a drug user now as ever before. She pulled attempted suicide a year and 1/2 ago. We weren’t amused, but we can’t live her life for her, be her mother, or whatever else it is she doesn’t want to do.
My other sane sister and I are going over to her apartment tonight to drop off Narcotics Anonymous material and tell her the same thing my brother and wife told her, “We love you, but you have to quit doing this. We can’t be your Saviour, you have to clean up and care about your life.”
Besides dropping off the NA material (which is wonderful), what can my sister and I say to her that could possibly get her out of her SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF, SELF ????
I’m just sick of this, but can’t quit if little sister is going to hang suicide over our heads again. Thank you for any replies.

Best answer:

Answer by faith..hope..charity..
Jesus can and Will take away her drug addiction. She has to believe in Him first…and trust in Him that He will. He did it for me. Maybe tell her this. Pray with her…Help her find a nice non denominational church she can worship in.

Question by Shannon G: Can going from binge drinking to drinking a few beers a day, if that, do severe damage to my health?
I’ve been a part of AA for 9 months but I’ve found that cutting back to a couple of light beers a day is working better than months of abstinence for now. It just seems like the stress of having to keep a certain sobriety date and constant reminders that I am an alcoholic causes me to relasp hard. Keep in mind that I am a 29 year old woman that has been drinking heavily for most of my twenties.

Best answer:

Answer by Coriline
It can benefit way more than it can damage you. Your liver needs time to repair. I suppose that drinking a little beer a day wouldn’t hurt you very much, but it still needs to be in moderation.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by archangel1111: i was addicted to vicodin, now im off is ultram going to be a bad choice for my chronic pain issues?
i have fibromyalgia and arthritis…i was addicted to vicodin and abused it to great extent for over a year. now that i have gotten off of it with the help of suboxen, my pain issues are back. i have to do something and have an appt. with my neurologist tomorrow. wondering is ultram going to cause a reaction in my brain to make me want more. i know it is a “semi-narcotic” but i never “enjoyed” taking it before and i know that it does work. now that my med tolerance is back down to normal im considering ultram and lyrica but i am scared. ive been clean for 23 days and proud. i definitely do NOT want to go back into the old patterns even tho i cannot get another prescription from my doc for vicodin and i am attending NA meetings regularly i am still afraid..anyone experienced in this subject. i know there are supposedly people out there addicted to ultram, God knows how lol but my ONLY interest here is pain relief. going with excersice and other natural remedies are fine and all but sometimes the pain is excruciating and i do NEED something to take it down a couple of notches…just NO NARCOTICS at least not vicodin. thanks!!!

Best answer:

Answer by annalyzedgourds
I too went through withdrawals to get off my narcotics. Now I take Tramadol and Ibuprofen 800s. My pain is still great but it beats being hooked on narcotics! Talk to your doctor and express your concerns, He can help a lot more than anyone here on YA.

Answer by The Dude who Abides
If the alcohol has left your system, you should be alright. But binge drinking can have long-term effects like liver damage. Don’t do it again.

Question by sick of it: I’m 5 months pregnant and am going to have a tooth pulled- I have questions?
I am concerned about an infection in a broken tooth ( had a root canal when I was 17 and now it’s filling has come out), that is why i am opting to have it pulled now- with a Dentist’s recommendation. He can’t save the tooth.

Now I am concerned about recovery. I have not had ANY of my teeth pulled before including wisdom teeth. He said that it will be painful after the procedure and that I can’t have any Narcotic pain relievers because of pregnancy- which I am fine with, but how bad is the pain?
Will extra strength Tylenol help at all? or Will I just have to suffer through it?
How long will it hurt?…
What about eating?
I’m pregnant and will only be able to have soft foods like soup and macaroni. My husband says I probably won’t want to eat at all. It’s one of my back upper molar teeth and so it will be hard to chew for a while.
What should I expect?

Best answer:

Answer by Nana to 1 and 1 on the way
The extreme pain should only last about 24 hours, with it easing alot by 48 hours. The tylenol probably isn’t going to help very much, but it’s better than nothing at all. I usually ate pretty soon after having a tooth pulled, but then I was able to take vicodin for pain. I really expect all to be pretty well for you after 24 hours. Remember, do NOT use a straw after having the tooth pulled. Good luck!

Question by doc_of_three: Are the people who listen to, and even worse believe everything rush limbaugh say ever going to face the truth?
The truth that he is a undereducated, overpaid, mean, hate filled, divider. Are there any reasonable conservatives that will finally leave this narcotic addicted, fat, obnoxious loser, or will they still defend him and tell me i’m calling him names as if every thing i said isn’t true.

Best answer:

Answer by Bonnie
I agree with you. I can’t understand how people could believe what he says or even watch his show. I won’t give him the satisfaction of knowing that I support him. He is definitely filled with hate and his bad temper shows with every controversial subject he tackles. I think we should all write to the sponsors of his show and voice our complaints. When it hits the pocketbook, sponsors will listen. In fact, when I finish on Y/A I will practice what I preach.

What we need more of in the media is accurate, non-bias reporting. I like to make up my own mind on issues, but I need to know the truth behind every issue first, not the opinions of someone who is mentally challenged. I don’t need someone like Rush Limbaugh to tell me what is right or wrong. I can figure that out for myself, and I have already figured out what kind of human(?) being he actually is.

Question by Mr. Libertarian: What’s the point of drinking if your not going to get drunk?
I was watching something on the news, and they were talking about lowering the drinking age (which I think is great but thats another story) and they were also saying this was because college students are getting too drunk! Well I have too aggre since I’ve been to some of these partys first hand (i don’t go to school, just attend the partys haha). But this won’t stop people from getting drunk. I mean the whole point of drinking (atleast to me) is to get drunk. I mean you don’t drink because it tastes good. Honestly, alcohol is one of the worst things I have ever tasted. Doesn’t matter what brand or style it is, it tastes horrible to me. I would rather drink mud. But I drink because I want to get drunk. Thats my only point of drinking. Just like I drink coffie to stay awake. I never drink coffie because it tastes good. It tastes like dirt. If I was thirsty, I wouldn’t go have a beer. I would have a glass of water. So my point is, who in the world doesn’t drink to get drunk? I mean, you would have to cut out your tounge to be able to drink alcohol so causually!
i’m 19, so yes i am too young. don’t really care though

Best answer:

Answer by KT
because i do NOT want a hangover. so i drink enough so that i don’t….
